  2. Pick Format or Minify, and the indent size you like.
  3. Fix any error shown below, then copy or download the result.

Common JSON errors and how to fix them

JSON is strict. Most errors come from habits carried over from JavaScript or Python. The error message shows the line and column where parsing stopped; the real mistake is usually just before that point.

MistakeInvalidValid
Trailing comma{"a": 1,}{"a": 1}
Single quotes{'a': 'x'}{"a": "x"}
Unquoted keys{a: 1}{"a": 1}
Comments{"a": 1 // note}Remove the comment
Python valuesTrue, Nonetrue, null
Special numbersNaN, InfinityUse null or a string

Format, minify or sort?

Format adds indentation and line breaks so humans can read it. Minify removes all optional whitespace, which makes API payloads and config files smaller. Sort keys A–Z puts object keys in a stable order, which makes two JSON files much easier to compare with the Text Diff Checker tool.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my JSON invalid?

The most common causes are trailing commas, single quotes instead of double quotes, unquoted keys and comments. The error message shows the line and column where parsing failed.

Is there a size limit?

Only your device’s memory. Files of several megabytes format in well under a second.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. HushConverts converts everything with code that runs in your browser, so your text and files stay on your device. You can even use most tools offline once the page has loaded.
