How to use the Favicon Generator tool
- Drop your logo or a square image (PNG or SVG works best).
- Add a background, padding or rounded corners if you like, and check the previews.
- Download the ZIP, upload the files to your site’s root folder and paste the HTML into your pages.
Which icon files a website needs
| File | Size | Used by |
|---|---|---|
| favicon.ico | 16, 32 and 48 px | Browser tabs, bookmarks and Google search results |
| favicon-32x32.png | 32 px | Modern browsers |
| apple-touch-icon.png | 180 px | iPhone and iPad home screens |
| icon-192.png, icon-512.png | 192 and 512 px | Android home screens and installable web apps |
Getting your favicon into Google
Upload the files to the root folder of your site so that /favicon.ico loads directly, and add the HTML tags to every page. Google shows a favicon in search results once it has recrawled your homepage, which can take a few days to a few weeks. Requesting indexing of your homepage in Google Search Console can speed this up.
Frequently asked questions
What size should my image be?
Use a square image of at least 512 × 512 pixels, or an SVG. Simple, bold shapes stay recognizable at the tiny 16-pixel size.
Which files do I need?
favicon.ico for browsers and search engines, apple-touch-icon.png for iPhones and iPads, and the 192 and 512 pixel PNGs with site.webmanifest for Android and installable web apps. The ZIP includes them all.
Why doesn’t Google show my new favicon yet?
Google refreshes favicons on its own schedule, which can take days or weeks. Make sure favicon.ico is at the root of your site and that the page links to it.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. HushConverts converts everything with code that runs in your browser, so your text and files stay on your device. You can even use most tools offline once the page has loaded.
