How to use the Remove Line Breaks tool

  1. Paste your text.
  2. Choose Keep paragraphs or Remove all line breaks, and the cleanup options.
  3. Copy the cleaned text.

Keep paragraphs or one line?

Keep paragraphs joins the lines inside each paragraph but keeps the blank lines between them, which is right for articles, emails and documents. Remove all line breaks turns everything into one continuous line, which suits form fields, spreadsheet cells and single-line inputs.

Where messy line breaks come from

  • PDFs store text line by line, so copying keeps a break at the end of every printed line and splits hyphenated words.
  • Plain-text emails are often wrapped at about 72 characters.
  • OCR and scanned text keep the line layout of the page.

To remove repeated lines instead, use Remove Duplicate Lines. To check the length of the cleaned text, use the Word Counter.

Frequently asked questions

Why does text from a PDF have line breaks everywhere?

PDFs store text line by line as it appears on the page, so copying it keeps a break at the end of every printed line.

What does “join words split by a hyphen” do?

It rejoins words that were hyphenated at the end of a line, so “sen-” and “tences” become “sentences” again.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. HushConverts converts everything with code that runs in your browser, so your text and files stay on your device. You can even use most tools offline once the page has loaded.
