How to use the JSON to YAML tool
- Paste your JSON into the input box.
- The YAML appears instantly. Choose 2 or 4 spaces of indentation.
- Copy or download the YAML.
Why convert JSON to YAML?
YAML shows the same data with less punctuation: no braces, fewer quotes and indentation instead of brackets. That makes long configuration files easier to read, review and edit, and YAML lets you add comments explaining each setting. Most tools that read YAML, such as Kubernetes, Docker Compose and CI services, will accept the output directly.
Before you paste the result
- Choose the indent size your project already uses; 2 spaces is the most common.
- Strings that YAML could misread, such as
"yes"or"1.0", are quoted automatically so they stay strings. - Key order is kept as it was in the JSON.
If the JSON is rejected, find the problem with the JSON Formatter & Validator. To convert back, use YAML to JSON.
Frequently asked questions
Is YAML a superset of JSON?
Almost. Nearly every JSON file is also valid YAML, but YAML adds comments, anchors and a cleaner indented style that is easier to read and edit.
Why are some strings in quotes?
Values that YAML would otherwise read as something else, such as “yes”, “null” or “1.0”, are quoted so they stay strings.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. HushConverts converts everything with code that runs in your browser, so your text and files stay on your device. You can even use most tools offline once the page has loaded.
